He was known for his deaf responses to his advisers (which probably explains why he eventually had to face the music). On the other side of the coin, there is Yuan Shao, who leads the Duchy of Song. From there, Cao Cao’s ambitions would know no bounds. Another enemy, Gong Du (the last leader of the Yellow Turban faction), directly entered my ambush. To the south, I defeated Liu Bei, but it turned out to be slippery. In just three turns, I wiped out various armies, captured Yan Liang and Wen Chou, and if I decided to do so, I could execute Yuan Shao right there. Reinforced by the fearsome Guan Yu (whom you capture on your first turn), Yuan Shao’s forces were no match. In a couple of plays as Cao Cao (who leads the Duchy of Wei), I positioned my forces to ensure a pitched battle. But it is a pity that we cannot see a Battle of Guandu (that does not exist in the game as a historical battle). This is also how I approached Cao Cao and Yuan Shao’s campaigns in Divided Destinations. Small movements that culminate in a pitched battle – as it was in history. Soldiers panicked and morale plummeted, causing the total collapse of Yuan Shao’s entire army. Although Yuan Shao’s forces outnumbered him, the cunning Hero of Chaos attacked and burned Lord Fatuo’s supplies in Wuchao. In the case of Cao Cao, as it happened historically, that opportunity came in Guandu. As in a game of chess, or Go (also seen in the ad trailer), you place your forces while waiting for the right moment to attack. What is shown on the DLC start date is a grand campaign with multiple battle fronts and armies. ![]() It really is fitting as their epic showdown was a critical moment in the Three Kingdoms period of China. With the defeat of Lü Bu, Cao Cao and Yuan Shao are eager to fight for hegemony in the north. In any case, remember that this Total War: Three Kingdoms – Divided Fates The review is based on multiple games with Romance mode selected. From newcomers Liu Yan and Liu Zhang to old favorites like Liu Bei and Sun Ce, I tried to figure out what the DLC and the free update separately bring. And yet I began to wonder how I could fairly judge a DLC when an accompanying free update changed a lot more.Īs such, I kept playing. The DLC Chapter Pack, one that adds a new 200 CE start date centered around the epic clash between Cao Cao and Yuan Shao, was something that longtime fans and Romance of the Three Kingdoms enthusiasts have been waiting. The page isn’t up yet, but hopefully, by the time you’re reading this, it would be up.I had some qualms when I was checking Total War: Three Kingdoms – Divided Fates. You can pre-purchase Fates Divide with a 10% discount off of its USD9.99 pricing before the launch on Steam. Love to see how they put more flexibility and usefulness into this system. THREE KINGDOMS did a lot to bring in espionage and a council into a Total War game but you sort of ignored it after a while. I’m more interested to see what improvements they bring to the faction mechanics. While I personally don’t think this will be a massive expansion gameplay-wise, if you’re enjoying THREE KINGDOMS and want new content on the factions you’re already used to, then this should be right up your alley.
